What does Start with Heart mean?

When we lead with heart, we focus on what matters most—helping our community thrive. As a mutual bank, we don’t answer to shareholders; we invest in people. Since 1891, we’ve turned our success into support through giving, service, and genuine care—because when a community starts with heart, everyone grows stronger.
Our support often comes in the form of monetary donations, but our employees also serve in various leadership roles on non-profit boards and have accumulated a large number of volunteer hours at dozens of local events and initiatives. 

In 2025, together with our affiliates, River Run, Newburyport Bank, and Rollstone Bank & Trust, our impact is our most meaningful yet:

  • Our employees volunteered more than 8,100 hours 
  • We supported over 560 local non-profit organizations
  • Serving 62 communities across Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire
